The Writing Clear, Effective Email self-study course will teach you how to write clear, professional emails. The course materials contain easy-to-understand explanations and a large number of examples so you can learn the skills on your own. It is divided into lessons, like a college course. You have access to the course materials for as long as you want to use them.

The Business Writing Center does not track progress through this version of the self-study course. A version of the Writing Clear, Effective Email Self-study course is available in which the Business Writing Center will record your completion of lessons. The Business Writing Center will notify you or a manager that you have submitted the forms showing that you have completed the lessons. That course is BWC356.

Because the self-study courses have no instructor contact, you will not receive a graduation certificate. If you want instructor contact and a graduation certificate, you should enroll in BWC350.

The Writing Clear, Effective Email self-study course will teach you how to write clear, professional e-mails. The course materials contain easy-to-understand explanations and a large number of examples so you can learn the skills on your own. It is divided into lessons, like a college course. You have access to the course materials for as long as you want to use them. In this version of the course, the Business Writing Center will record your completion of lessons and send a notification to you or a supervisor that you have read the lessons.

Because the self-study courses have no instructor contact, you will not receive a graduation certificate. If you want instructor contact and a graduation certificate, you should enroll in BWC350.

BWC350 Writing Effective Workplace Email

The Writing Effective Workplace Email course will teach you how to write clear, well-organized email that has the impact you want, motivates your readers to respond as you expect, and accomplishes your business objectives. It presents a highly structured approach to writing email that you can apply to all email and memos.

You will read the core lessons teaching you how to write email that produces results. As you read the lessons, you will write and submit emails. Your instructor will evaluate the emails, commenting on your use of all writing skills as well as those taught specifically in the online email writing course.

As with the other Business Writing Center courses, the course has online lessons like the lectures in a college course. The materials contain many examples and easy-to-understand explanations. It is self-pacing, so you decide when to work. You send assignments to your instructor attached to an email. Your instructor will evaluate your writing, comment on how well you have learned the skills, and coach you through learning any skills you haven't mastered.



Course Time: You will go through the course at your own pace, so you could complete it within a few weeks. However, you have up to four months to complete the course so you can fit the study time into your schedule. All lessons must be finished within the four-month period.

This combination of BWC350 and BWC110 is ideal because BWC350 teaches the best practices for writing clear, effective business email and BWC110 focuses on the grammar skills you need to learn. Tuition is discounted from the $640 for the courses taken individually to $595. You have four months to complete each course, meaning you have a total of eight months to complete both.

BWC110 Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial

The Basic Grammar Skills Tutorial course is for people who have problems in grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, or sentence structure. The course will help you learn new patterns to replace the old by using your own sentences as examples. The teaching, practice, and tests are based on your own writing as much as possible. It is highly individualized. The instructor carefully evaluates writing samples and prescribes study and practice based on your unique needs. You work on only the specific skills you need to learn, at your own pace. You have unlimited access to the instructor to ask questions.

You will send writing samples to your instructor. Your instructor will read each sample thoroughly, identify skills you need to learn, list the sentences with problems in each area with corrections showing how they should have been written, assign readings from the grammar textbook, answer any questions you have about the skills, have you practice the skills, and give you an online quiz containing sentences from your original writing sample that you must correct in ten minutes to be sure you have learned the skills. That comprises a full cycle of analysis of your writing and training in all the writing skills we identify that you need. You will go through four full cycles of this work on your writing skills.

You may purchase the grammar textbook we use from a bookseller such as Amazon.com. However, the textbook is not required for the course. You will use online training materials to learn the skills.

The Individualized Writing for Nonnative Speakers of English course is for people who have a good command of the English language, but have basic usage problems resulting from speaking English as a second language. The course is a tutorial.
